A Darn Good Book
My husband says all I can do is clean and cook
So hit him in the head with a darn good book
I read and read and here is what I said
I am capable of much more than I look
In my face, he slammed the door
Later they drafted him, to the next big war
I had to take over his factory position
And manufacture all of the ammunition
All it took was a darn good book

Bus
Yellow Bus gets me at the corner
White folks sittin in the front
Where it is warmer
I hate this arrangement I must be blunt
Black folks sittin the back
Why in the world is this law intact?

Resistance
All people are equally protected by law
This is not the conclusion we have come to draw
Things should have changed
But laws were maintained
Nonviolent forms of resistance was our new mission
And that lead to our point of recognition
Read about us in the history book
A bit of resistance was all that it took

Still Sitting
Disgusted with segregation
Four of us decided to take action with a new creation
It started with an order of coffee
A sit-in at the white’s only lunch counter with my posse
Service was refused and stressful
I remained polite and respectful
We will come and sit-in here everyday
At least until we are all treated the same way

Kennedy’s Stance
The president introduced a civil rights bill
He seized the moment to announce our new thrill
A dramatic opportunity to address the nation
Our country’s leader was tired of segregation
He spoke to the people about the golden rule
And be done with rotten ridicule
