Watergate Timeline

Nixon's Watergate scandal was an awful time in history for Americans.  It all started off when 5 men carrying wire tapping material were caught. Nixon was rumored to be involved, but he denied it and the White House dismissed it.  When the news came out that two of the criminals caught were ex-FBI and ex-CIA, Nixon arranged hush money and committed an obstruction of justice. Later, two reporters publicly uncovered information that Nixon may be involved. The senate committee began holding nationally televised meetings to try and uncover the truth.  When Alexander Butterfeild was interviewed he revealed some very important information. He said that Nixon kept tapes that recorded every conversation he has had as president. Nixon was eventually forced to give up the tapes, and America discovered that he was guilty. Nixon then resigned to avoid impeachment. President Ford pardoned Nixon, but more than 30 government officials went to prison because of Watergate.
